Luxury Cognac Packaging Ideas

We have seen supply chain problems ensue, but despite these unfortunate circumstances, sales of Cognac have jumped dramatically. And as sales have increased, many brands have made elegant upgrades to their Cognac packaging solutions.

The update of Cognac packaging is not only more modern in design, but also puts sustainability at the forefront. Many Cognac brands have worked with design studios to redesign their bottle closures and, together, they have modernised the packaging of their XO, VS and VSOP Cognacs.

Below case is a bottle closure design concept suitable only for the most high-end spirits, preferably for Cognac, Armagnac or whiskey brands.

The bottle is available in two versions with decoration – a more luxurious fully coated version with a laser removed teardrop shape in the middle and a more vintage range, and a gradient coated version. Due to their high cost, these two versions are only suitable for the more expensive range of spirits.

The bottle closure can be made from zamak or metallized plastic. Zamak closure is suitable for smaller manufacturing runs, while metallized plastic closure generally fits only very high volume productions. Glass, decoration and bottle closures must all be produced at different manufacturers, so the logistics, time and inherent premiums of the final product must be considered.

The second case study features a shape exploration for a new cognac, with the aim of creating a visually stunning expression for the bottle packaging design. We wanted it to be the attention of the bar.

To achieve this ambitious goal, we broke the category for glass bottles and bottle caps. We drew inspiration from the world of luxury. Thoughtful detailing, together with the gold metal cap and embossed finish on the carton and the stamping, gave the product the visual impact we were looking for. The thick and thin variations of the lines represent the complex flavours of this product. The result is a simple yet beautiful elegance.

Each new bottle in the range uses a lower weight of glassware, reducing the brand’s CO2 consumption. In addition, the updated design does not use plastic caps, helping the brand to move towards 100% recyclable cognac packaging.

While being sustainable, the new Cognac packaging captures the essence of the brand’s early 19th century roots, with elements that highlight its historical roots. For example, the design displays the signature of the Maison’s founder on the packaging design idea of each bottle. In addition, the shape of the XO bottle mimics the shape of a single water drop, inspired by the original bottle launched by the brand in 1984. In addition to the subversive shape, the glass creates a curvature that brings the essence of the brand to life.

The redesign of the Cognac packaging provides a complex narrative for each pour, the intricacy of which will surely inspire future generations of Cognac drinkers.

The House of Tesseron’s new signature range of cognac packaging takes its inspiration from the sample containers used by cellar owners for tastings.

The Signature Collection is presented with in upgraded Cognac  packaging. Each type of cognac is sealed by its own unique bottle closure, which makes it easy to tell one apart from another. One of the most interesting crystal stoppers of all is the one for TRESOR, which is crystal clear and has an polished surface to show off the color of cognac beautifully. The medallion embedded inside the crystal bottle stopper even coordinates with the print on the side of the glass bottle, which is golden and makes the amber-colored cognac look even more brilliant.
